Henri Martin, Henri Le Sidaner
Deux talents fraternels

Henri Martin and Henri Le Sidaner have always been regarded as two fraternal talents. When one was mentioned, the other immediately came to mind. Belonging to a symbolist generation enamored with music and poetry, the two artists were above all passionate about nature. They embodied its two facets: the sunny brightness of the southern land and the soothing effects of the northern soul. They participated in the intimate movement that reigned during the Belle Époque. By respecting the truth of appearances, our artists focused on conveying the poetry, tenderness, and devotion of their subjects, “the intimate sense of life’s spectacles”. In this way, they truly managed to create a connection with the viewer and were labeled as intimists.
