Carmontelle’s Landscape Transparencies Cinema of the Enlightenment : In 1783 Louis de Carmontelle began a series of painted panoramas on translucent paper that were passed in front of a light source to provide entertainment at royal court gatherings ; now they show the evolution of fashion and customs during the late eighteenth century.
